The Struggle Behind the Idea

RuggedHead wasn’t born in a classroom or an incubator; it came out of lived experience. I’ve owned numerous businesses in different industries throughout my life- from traditional service and retail companies, small manufacturing, to two dotcom startups that ultimately failed. Each venture taught me something different about entrepreneurship, business resilience and founder mindset, and what it really takes to keep going when the path isn’t clear.

A few years ago, I found myself running a small financial-services business in an industry I had little previous experience. Within the first two years, a series of setbacks hit one after another: the sudden loss of a key team member, the impact of COVID shutting down courts and government subsidies that unintentionally undercut our clients and, in turn, our business. I even tried pivoting the business model during COVID to offset the closures, but the new business venture fell flat just two years ago. In the middle of all that, I learned the financials I had relied on when buying the business weren’t what they seemed- a misrepresented snapshot that explained the persistent revenue shortfall I kept trying to outwork.

The result was a perfect storm that left me scrambling- taking on more responsibility, carrying heavier debt service and constantly trying to figure out how to keep things afloat. What followed was years of grinding through financial strain, high-stakes decisions and the kind of entrepreneur burnout and stress that eats away at you if it’s not managed in some capacity.

The Turning Point

Somewhere along the way, I realized there isn’t a playbook for the unglamorous side of entrepreneurship. Everyone talks about scaling startups, growth hacking and funding rounds- but no one talks about waking up at 2 a.m. with the weight of responsibility pressing down on your chest. No one talks about stress, burnout and anxiety while building and running a business.

I leaned on a few friends during that time; some wildly-successful entrepreneurs who shared how they managed uncertainty, and others who had exited or retired early but now faced their own battles with purpose and identity. From both groups I learned something crucial: resilience isn’t just about keeping your business alive- it’s about reframing and keeping yourself alive, grounded and ready for whatever comes next. It’s about embracing uncertainty and building a resilient founder mindset.

So I started developing my own coping strategies, learning from my experiences and the stories of others. They weren’t polished or perfect, but they kept me steady when everything else felt uncertain. Looking back, these became the first blueprint for RuggedHead.

The Mission

RuggedHead is my way of turning those lessons into something useful for other business owners and entrepreneurs. It’s not coaching, and it’s not about teaching people how to run or scale their companies- it’s about helping them navigate the mental health challenges of entrepreneurship, the emotional rollercoaster of building something from scratch and the ongoing uncertainty that founders face.

The Resilience Toolkit for Entrepreneurs is the first step: a collection of science-backed tools designed to help founders clear their head, reset their focus, and regain a sense of control when things feel overwhelming.

This is personal for me. I know first-hand what it’s like to carry the weight of setbacks that seem endless, and I know how hard it is to keep showing up anyway. RuggedHead exists so other founders don’t have to figure it out alone.

The Invitation

Right now, RuggedHead is a work in progress- and I want it that way. The best way to build something useful is to build it with the people it’s meant to serve. That’s why I’m sharing our first tools now: not as a finished product, but as an open invitation.

If you’re a founder or small business owner, I’d love your honest feedback on the first tools we’ve created. Try them, test them and tell me what resonates and what doesn’t. Share tools that have worked for you. And looking ahead, RuggedHead will expand into specialized modules- for example, one designed for entrepreneurs who recently exited a business and are struggling with identity and purpose. That kind of transition is rarely talked about, but it’s one of the most defining moments in an entrepreneurial journey.

Closing Thought

For me, RuggedHead is about creating something positive in the middle of difficult circumstances- something that helps me- and hopefully helps others, stay steady when the path gets steep. If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your story too. See more at our Reddit thread.
